It is the urgent mission of The Resistance: from Angst to Action to fight the unjust actions of the Trump Administration by filling the gaps not addressed by other activist groups, networking with them, and making the resistance more visible to the citizens of North Central Washington.
Local Clergy speak out against ICE -- Twenty-three local clergy have signed a statement condemning the actions of ICE as immoral and unchristian. Copies of the statement have been sent to the regional ICE office in Yakima, to the Mayors of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee, to The Wenatchee Police Department, and to our Senators and Representatives. Here is a response from Senator Patty Murray:
Dear Dr. Madsen,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the egregious conduct of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal law enforcement officers.
I am outraged by President Trump’s mass deportation agenda and the actions of many of the federal officers carrying it out. What we are seeing unfold across our communities shocks the conscience. This chaos is hurting families, communities, and businesses in Washington state and across the nation without regard for due process or public safety. I am especially alarmed by the images of ICE agents wearing unmarked gear, clothing, and face coverings, which prevent people from knowing who they are interacting with and whether they are legitimate government officials.
I know there are members of our communities across Washington state who have been afraid to go outside for fear of being detained on their way to work or school by masked individuals in unmarked cars. I’ve met with many people this year, including farmworkers in Northwest Washington, who have shared these concerns with me directly. At the very least, people who are detained by law enforcement deserve to know who is detaining them and why. That’s why I cosponsored the Visible Identification Standards for Immigration-Based Law Enforcement (VISIBLE) Act of 2025, which would require officers to display clearly legible identification, prohibit non-medical face coverings that obscure identity, and strengthen oversight and accountability when it comes to these alarming immigration enforcement tactics. I also cosponsored the Preventing Authoritarian Policing Tactics on America’s Streets Act, which would prevent federal law enforcement agents from making arrests or apprehensions in unmarked vehicles and put reasonable limits on federal agents’ crowd control activities.
This year we’ve also seen federal officers arrest noncitizens at their immigration court hearings and regular check-ins—this has happened in Seattle, Spokane, and other places across our state and our country. This cruel practice is a blatant violation of due process and punishes people who are doing everything they can to comply with legal requirements. I am also outraged by the reports of federal immigration officers detaining U.S. citizens simply for the color of their skin or for the jobs they hold—and it is appalling that the Supreme Court cleared the way earlier this year for the Trump administration to racially profile people during immigration stops.
Please know that I will not stop pushing back against this Administration’s cruelty and their efforts to trample on people’s due process rights, safety, and basic humanity. I will keep using every legislative tool at my disposal and speaking out against these abuses, alongside so many people in Washington state and across the country who are exercising their First Amendment right to peacefully protest.
Thank you for reaching out to my office—and please continue to raise your voice; you have my commitment that I’ll continue to do the same. The Healthcare Preservation Team, a group of concerned healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, and advocates have come together out of deep concern for the future of Medicaid in North-Central Washington. They have produced a full report, “Undermining Rural Health: A Study of the Impact that Federal Medicaid Funding Cuts Would Have in North-Central Washington”, and a white paper report, “Medicaid in North-Central Washington: Preserving Vital Health Services”, both of which were created to provide a clear, fact-based look at how proposed Medicaid cuts in the so-called.
In addition, ncw Channel Z has produced a 2-minute video to summarize some of the content from the reports. We encourage you to share this content (video and link to whitepaper) on your social media and communication outlets. See our media page!
Reverse Trump's Global Health Care Funding Ban -- Of all the dangerous unjust acts Trump and Musk have done, defunding USAID is perhaps the worst. It exposes millions to disease and poverty. And the diseases like Ebola and AIDS, that start in Africa, will end up here as well. So, it's bad for others AND bad for us! Contact your congressional leaders!
